Presentation:     Innovative Land Use Planning and Design for Health and Climate Change

 

Speaker:           Karen Roof, MS

Since 2003, Karen Roof of Kroof EnviroHealth Consulting has worked with national, state and local health departments and organizations on: developing and conducting surveys and focus groups; providing technical assistance and facilitation, writing grant proposals and case studies, developing and implementing programs, conducting community asset/needs assessments; and conducting numerous workshops and presentations on multiple environmental public health issues including the intersection of land use planning/design and health. 

 

Karen received her M.S. in Environmental Policy and Management from the University of Denver in 1995. Karen is currently working towards a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning and a PhD in Design and Planning from the University of Colorado, Denver.

 

 

Speaker:           Anne Biklé, MS        

Anne Biklé is the program manager for the Built Environment and Land Use program within the Seattle & King County Public Health Department.  Current initiatives of the program include integrating public health into climate change responses; supporting healthy eating, active living strategies; piloting Health Impact Assessment, and developing health policies and health language for land use and transportation plans. 

 

Ms. Biklé brings a diverse background in environmental planning and issues analysis, community organizing, and advocacy to the fields of public health and land use planning.  Prior to joining Seattle-King County Public Health, Ms. Biklé worked at the local government level in environmental stewardship with a focus on watershed plan implementation, salmon habitat restoration, and land conservation.  She holds Bachelor degrees in Biology and Environmental Studies from the University of CA. Santa Cruz and a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of CA. Berkeley.
